Summer Celebrations! The Importance of Traditions
June 20th was the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere! What is a solstice? Coming from the Latin words sol meaning Sun and sistere meaning to stand still, the solstice is when the angle between the light of the Sun and the plane of Earth’s equator looks as if it stands still (Farmers’ Almanac, n.d.). We can see this most directly at the Arctic Circle where we may have heard the term “Land of the Midnight Sun.”

Fall Transitions
On the 22nd of this month, the September equinox marked the beginning of fall in the Northern Hemisphere. Different cultures worldwide have different ways of honoring and celebrating the changing of the seasons. We will explore a few of them and their traditions in the hopes of drawing on them to inspire our own imaginations about what fall traditions can be in our own lives.
